Javier Sierra Pierna holds a PhD in Economics (University of Salamanca) and a MA in Evaluation of Legal Issues and Public Policies (University of Salamanca). He has also been student at the Università di Roma II Tor Vergata (Italy) and the London School of Economics (United Kingdom). He has been visiting fellow at the Center for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) at the Université de Mons (Belgium), and has undertaking fieldwork research in Bolivia and Peru.
He is a teacher at Cursos Internacionales of the University of Salamanca and he has been teaching at several universities in Spain, Colombia, Guatemala and Slovenia. He has been working as a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank and for the private sector in Spain. His research is focused on the evaluation of microfinance in Latin America. He is a Spanish and Catalan native speaker, and he is fluent in English, French and Italian.
